Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel Temples

Located 40 km from the Sudanese border, Abu Simbel is one of Egypt’s most impressive temple complexes. Carved into Nubian sandstone, the two temples were built by Ramses II—one in honor of himself and the other dedicated to his chief wife, Queen Nefertari.

Planning Your Visit:

Most visitors go early to catch the sunrise at the temples—a breathtaking experience. The journey starts around 2 AM, allowing you to return to Aswan by 10 AM and save the rest of your day. However, this is also the busiest time. If you have time, consider staying overnight: enjoy the evening sound and light show and revisit the temples in the peaceful morning hours.
