How to get to Luxor/Aswan 

From Cairo

By Flight

 Flights are the quickest way to travel from Cairo to Luxor, with many daily departures . Several airlines offers  flights between the two cities, including Egyptair, Nile Air, Air Cairo and Nesma

Travel time: 1-1.5 hours

Cost: 40-100 USD

 

By Bus

Numerous companies operate this route . Be sure to check the Go Bus website or other providers for current schedules and fares.

Frequency: 10 per day

Travel time: About 10-12 hours

Cost: 300-600EGP (depending of the company and services ) Departure points: Go Bus - Giza, Torgoman, Tahrir, Ramses and many others

 

By Train

Frequency: Trains depart several times a day.

 Note: Online booking is currently unavailable for foreigners. Tickets can be purchased at the train station (Ramses Station in Cairo), via tourism agencies, or with hotel help.

Travel Time:  10-16 hours.

Payment: Tourists have separate fares from Egyptians. Locate the designated counter for tourist fares at the station.  Be prepared to pay in US Dollars (USD) or Euros (EUR). Egyptian Pounds (EGP) are not accepted for tourist fares.

Cost - Day Trains: $40-$60 USD for a comfortable seat (air-conditioned or higher-class "talgo train"). 

Cost - Night Trains/Sleeper:  $90-$110 USD.  Reservations for sleeper trains can be made on the Abela website. Departs daily  around 20:00 

By Taxi/Private ride

Travel time: About 8 hours

Cost: 200-250$ USD.

 

By Microbus 

While shared taxis offer the most affordable option, they are less recommended due to  potential delays and uncertainties regarding travel time and comfort.

Cost: 300EGP 

 

From Other cities

From Sharm el Sheik

Flights to Luxor once a week (usually Wednesdays or Saturdays).Seasonal

Local Microbus: 12-14 hours – 500 EGP (Tourists may sometimes need to pay for two seats).

 

From Aswan

By train: 3.5 hours ,20-30 USD

By bus /microbus: 4,4.5 hours 100 EGP

By private car: 4 hours 80-100 USD

By Boat: Taking a Nile cruise from Cairo to Luxor is a great way to see the sights of the Nile Valley. Cruises typically take 3-4 days and include stops at some of the most famous ancient sites in Egypt.

From Hurghada.

By bus : 4.5 hours 240EGP

By private car: 4 hours 80-110 USD
